Estill Voice Training: A Scientifically-Based Vocal Method

WHAT IS ESTILL VOICE TRAINING?

Estill Voice Training is a scientifically grounded vocal training method developed in the 1980s by American singer, teacher, and voice researcher Jo Estill (1921–2010). Based on medical and physiological findings, the method shows that everyone can produce a wide range of vocal sounds by learning to control the movements of 13 functional structures of the vocal mechanism, such as the tongue, soft palate, and larynx.

Estill Voice Training covers various vocal qualities, including opera, belting, speech, twang, falsetto, and sob, enabling a versatile vocal expression. The Estill model was developed to help individuals build safe and controlled vocal techniques that apply to all singing styles. It is a well-structured approach to functional voice training, used worldwide by singers, actors, speakers, speech therapists, and vocal coaches.

The method focuses on building vocal control, flexibility, and health, allowing individuals to use their voices effectively across a wide range of vocal techniques and performance contexts.

Estill Voice MaSter Trainer (EMT)

As an Estill Master Trainer (EMT) I support advanced singers in unlocking their unique vocal strengths. My approach combines precise technical training with practical, goal-oriented coaching tailored to your artistic ambitions.

The focus lies on not just gaining vocal control, but learning how to use your voice effectively across different musical styles and performance settings. Whether refining tone, improving register transitions, or discovering new means of expression – we’ll work together to fully explore and expand your vocal potential.

A key part of my work is fostering vocal sustainability, ensuring you remain healthy and resilient even under demanding performance conditions. With my long-standing experience as both a singer and vocal coach, I help you build a solid technical foundation to keep your voice strong and flexible. Estill Voice Training is fully integrated into my vocal lessons and perfectly complements my formal training in Bel Canto singing.
